Wot so Funee? Fish fingers are made of…

Wot So Funee?

Welcome to the temporary home of the Wot so Funee link up of blog posts.  A one week only special!

I arm-wrestled the Wot so Funee linky from Actually Mummy for a cunning plan; then that cunning plan evaporated before it was even put into motion. Oh well…next time!

However, I thought it would still be fun to host the link up of blog posts about the funny things our children say, do or write this week. I have a tough week ahead of solo parenting my brood, so I can surely use a laugh hopping around the other posts.

I don’t know about you, but we have some real corkers from the Littlins.  Unfortunately, I don’t write them down as often as I should.  I am so glad I did record this one though:

The other day we were having fish fingers for dinner.

Dadonthebrink and I had read a couple of weeks ago about the extraordinary number, something like 1 in 3, kids thinking fish fingers are made of chicken and cheese grows on a plant.  Dadonthebrink and I both have agricultural backgrounds, with Dadonthebrink actually having grown up on a farm, we were shocked and saddened by these statistics. We quickly dismissed the possibility that our children wouldn’t know.

We couldn’t, however, resist asking them:

Dadonthebrink: “What are fishfingers made of?“

Angelina, with her wise age of 6, said- “Well fish of course!” – indignant that we would even assume she didn’t know; and carried on eating this rare treat. (I’m usually too stingy budget-conscious to buy prepared food).

Hugo’s reply- “Fish!” -,

then he hesitated slightly,- “….and fingers!“- proudly.

Dadonthebrink wanted to clarify and held up his hand, outstretched fingers- ” My fingers?“- he smiled thinking Hugo was just joking.

Hugo- “No Silleeeeeeee!  That of the dead!” – giggling at how smart he was.

We didn’t go into detail of dead person or dead animal. Ewww! 4 year old little boys and their gory minds, hey?  (Snot, farts, insects, worms and fingers dead or a live.)  Change of topic quickly!!!

Do your little ones have weird ideas about where their food comes from?  Please do share these and other funny moments of your little ones and not so little ones!

You can grab a ” Wot so funee?” badge from Actually Mummy’s site

Welcome to the blog hop Jaime!

Kids are so pure and naive at that age, you’ve gotta love the stuff they come out with.

I dread to think how much truth there actually might be in his innocent remark, Louise.

Cathie, I hope you didn’t spill any of your cuppa! 😉

The conversation did slightly put me off my dinner that evening.

I’ve not brought any since! The thought of a bit of fisherman’s finger included has put me off for a fair few months. My imagination is too vivid!

Thank you for allowing me to host it. It’s a brilliant blog hop!

Yuck, yuck and yuck!! But I do love the stuff kids come out with. Incidentally, there is a book called ‘Barry The Fish With Fingers’ that I always used to read to Grace when she was younger – this brought back memories! Love this link and I am a regular but not been able to link for the last couple of weeks. Thanks for hosting – and great to read your blog 🙂 x

They are! I’m now convinced it is genetic, as I have raised both my daughter and son with same focus and yet Hugo is the one taking it to the gross extreme.

Haha, that’s hilarious! Fingers of the dead! Love the way their minds work. Mine are too young to think they know where food comes from though I think my toddler is slightly confused why milk comes from cows and mummy!

Oh, yuck! Here in the US they seem to be ‘fish sticks’ instead, so less confusing perhaps… I’m not sure I’ll be able to look at them quite the same way again though! Don’t you just love 4yo boys 🙂

Haha – ‘that of the dead’
My husband constantly told the children they were eating Peppa and George whenever they had sausages – surprisingly they were never fussed!
A belated visit to link up to the #funee hop – will be back xx
