Pregnancy week 7

This the 7th week of my pregnancy.  According to Babycentre.co.uk:

Now about 1cm long, the size of a grape” Wow! From a lentil to a grape in a week, that’s a lot of growing!

“your baby has distinct, slightly webbed fingers and toes. They look a bit like tiny paddles. Your baby is a jumping bean, moving in fits and starts. The tiny liver is churning out large amounts of red blood cells until the bone marrow forms and takes over this role.

He now has an appendix and a pancreas, which will eventually produce the hormone insulin to aid in digestion. Tooth buds, palate and tongue are forming, while his ears continue to develop and eyelids are starting to cover his eyes. Your baby’s skin is paper thin, and veins are clearly visible.”

While Sticky Bean is growing at this huge rate, I am feeling more and more tired. I can sleep a straight 10-11 hours a night and then would still welcome an afternoon nap. A strange side effect of the lots of sleep is incredibly vivid bizarre dreams. I often wake up in the midst of these.

When I am not sleeping the nausea comes in waves. (No throwing up though, so I am grateful for that.) Food is not very appealing and neither is plain water. However, I do have to eat at regular intervals for fear of passing out or, even worse, becoming a house dragon with a real temper. I now keep a snack of some sort- a little pack of biscuits or some nuts- in my handbag and I actually remember to replenish these when I’ve eaten them.

I drink a large mug of decaf coffee with lots of milk in the morning and then keep my fluid levels topped up with squash- mainly some version of elderflower mix.

My fluid intake has risen, but the visit to the little girls’ room has not significantly yet.

However, my bowels are definitely responding to the effect of hormones and have slowed down to almost standstill. This makes my tummy puffed up and I look about 5-6 months pregnant… just not fair! In an attempt to combat this (after I had double checked with my GP) I have reached for some old supplies of Movicol, which I was given after an operation in the spring. It’s like drinking hydration salts. Brrr! … but it does get things moving a bit and the stomach less puffy.

This week the only time I was nausea free was during a conference that I was helping out at as an organiser. The adrenalin certainly gets rid of the queasiness! If I could be 99% sure that there was no harmful effect, then I would be looking to do this sort of stuff every day.  … but who knows how a regular higher than normal level of adrenaline really effects the embryo?

In general, I think, I have been slightly better to live with this week, not as many appearances of dragonlady. However teary lady has started to make an appearance: I do start to cry over the most mundane things at times. My poor family to have to deal with this!

Well, that’s us in a nutshell.

More next week…

Did you have nausea? How did you deal with it in pregnancy?

Missed week 6?

Yes, I certainly did have nausea! It lasted for 7 months last time and this time I got away with it for just 12 ish weeks. I still wear sea bands as every time I take them off I feel nauseous again. May be all in my mind, but maybe not. I also swear by fizzy water, polos and sleep. Sometimes sleep is the only answer. Hope it passes for you soon

I found out I was pregnant right about 5 weeks and by week 7 I was puking. My husband is an auto mechanic and would come home smelling like oil and antifreeze. As soon as he would come home, I would run and vomit. There was NOTHING I could do to stop it, but at least it was only once or twice a day.

Congrats on another baby! I hope this pregnancy goes well for you and the nauseous feeling will pass.

I had only one day of morning sickness during my entire pregnancy. I met for a realtor luncheon and opted for a ginormous chili and nachos. I awoke the next morning at 4:00 and ran to the shower. I threw up all day. No more nachos for the rest of the pregnancy–great aversion therapy.

I had bad nausea through my pregnancy. I found keeping hydrated, taking small bites on dry biscuits and staying cool helped. Plus rest whenever you can.
