New Year, New Me… If Only!

by Mumonthebrink 1 Comment

In the past years I’ve ranted enough about New Year’s resolutions and how inefficient they are. It’s the wrong time of year to make most resolutions… Just too dark and gloomy.

Read: Forget New Year’s resolutions for dieting and getting fit!

However, there are 2 resolutions which, in my experience, will work:

1) Making the most of the increasing light

The best time to start an outdoor habit is right after Christmas, starting with the Boxing Day walk… and just keep going from there.

These past months our outdoor habit had seriously slipped. I mean just look at my Instagram feed– is all indoor pictures.

Home renovation has hijacked our weekend and spare time.

2) Spending more time with relaxing hobbies

Under the Christmas tree I found a Kindle. My old one was being hijacked by Angelina all the time. Then Amazon sent some great kindle offers and my friend and fabulous author Rachael Lucas, also messaged that her book is on offer.

So here’s my reading list for under a tenner:

Crafting more

I bought some circular cubic inter-changeable knitting needles (it’s complicated to even say it! 😀 ) in the autumn and have a fabulous stash of yarns… have I got round to using them?  No!

Well, now is the time I reckon, making the most of those long cosy nights, a couple of candles burning and creating some fun knitted projects.  Anyone have ideas for practical things to knit?

Do you have resolutions for the new year?

I have a word, which I write in several places This year, the word is intention. I transfer this to various areas of my life – e.g., am I using SM intentionally or mindlessly? Am I reading this book intentionally or just because I started it and feel that I have to finish it? Am I eating this intentionally, or just because I am bored? Am I seating in front of this screen right now intentionally, or just because?

As for books, I recommend The Tattooist of Auschwitz, which I read in two nights.

    Have a great year.
