Dadonthebrink came home last night after a couple of days working away. As we went to bed Max woke. Dadonthebrink brought him to bed for a feed. While Max suckled he kept glimpsing over at his father in a sort of disbelief. ” is it really him? Is he really back?”
Dadonthebrink and I softly chatted while Max fed. A mistake: it distracted me enough not to notice as Max came off my breast and exerted his little visor pinch on my sensitive nipple.
Ouch! … his inquisitive mind has been eyeing up that source of milk for days, winding just how he gets his nutrition. I’ve been alert and stopped him thus far.
I sat Max between us on the bed. He showed no sings of sleepiness. He cooed and giggled, glimpsing from one parent to another with pure love sparkling in his soft blue eyes.
Max clapped and was so proud of making Daddy smile that he snuggled up to me, laying his head on my chest, all shy.
The calm lasted a couple of seconds.
He showed off his new dancing skills and giggled away.
His smile big enough to give a glimpse to his tiny side youth emerging… It is the cutest thing ever!
He shoved his dummy into Daddy’s mouth and played at trying to take it away
… Alas it was midnight, it was time to sleep!
I wrapped Max in my arms and he calmed. Almost asleep Daddy gently scooped him from my arms and lay him into his cot.
There was a moment of quiet, just enough for Dadonthebrink to get back to bed. Then we heard a clutter … that’ll be the dummy thrown out of the cot
…and a shuffle
…and as we switched on the light we saw Max hanging over the cot rail like he was casually leaning on a bar waiting for his pint, having miraculously escaped his sleeping bag too. He smiled his sweet smile.
We looked at one another with Dadonthebrink with a giggle between us at our little cheeky rascal. It was Daddy’s time to cuddle Max onto his chest. I’d held the fort since 5 am.
I turned and fell asleep, Max did too in the arms of his loving parent.
… moments of happiness and pure joy are fleeting. We rush on with our lives so often that we often don’t even realise their existence. Its lovely to pause, enjoy and capture these!
