In England there is a mystical and magical place tucked away just off the A34, near Oxford and a stone’s throw from Didcot and Abingdon. It’s Milton Manor.
I’ve heard stories about this small estate, that lost it’s lands during compulsory purchases during the war. Stories how wonderful it is; How you feel like stepping back in time when you visit. Today I had the privilege to experience it. And not only that, but I had the added joy of seeing my children’s reactions as they stepped into a place so different, one full of adventure and things to explore around every corner, around every bush.
On Saturday, the Milton Manor and its grounds will host the Children’s Read-a-thon…and I cannot imagine a more amazing setting to truly ignite the imagination and allow young and old to step inside a story!
Everything here is like it was many years ago. No plastic, nothing artificial. Milton Manor allows you to step back into a by-gone era; for children to play in magical playgrounds created by nature and by clever landscaping. This place is a romantic dream and I challenge any adult not to feel a nostalgic pang and want to be a child again.
Milton Manor has so much to offer its visitors, like:
The Walled Garden
The Mermaid Pond and the Indian Island
The Treehouse
The Tea Rooms
The Underwater Bridge
The Woodland Walk
And all the hidden little gems tucked away.
Did you spot it? Fear not… there are WCs too, not just the composting variety. 😉
The best bit, meeting the animals.
Jenny, the donkey, is an old girl, but ever so sweet.
Cleo, the llama…well, you’ve got to be on the look out with her. You see, she’s a friendly soul… just as long as you bring her carrots. However, ….if she thinks you are withholding her delicious carrots, then beware!!!
She will throw her ears back,
you’ll see her lips move as if to attempt a smile at you,
…then you know it’s time to ruuuuuuun …or else then “SPTTT” comes the spit! 😉
I can’t believe this wonderful house and it’s surrounding gardens and fields will be home to the fairytale Saturday that the Children’s Read-a-thon offers to be!
My objective today was to see how rainproof the Read-a-thon will be. In my eyes it pretty good marks: even if it rains bring your waterproofs and your picnic backpack and thermos flask and you will find enough engaging tents, old buildings, a tea room, little shelters, thick trees to shield you from the rain.
…And to be honest you will probably forget about rain or sun as you step into this romantic Manor’s grounds and get swept away your childhood imagination.
ooh it looks so pretty x
Looks like a great place. Might have to check it out when we’re next in that neck of the woods
