How to Hygge- Challenge #1 [video] #hyggechallenge

As the darkness closes in again this winter, I’m clinging to anything to get me through these short days and long evenings.  Embracing hygge worked last year.

Returning from England last week, I could feel the cold and darkness getting to me.

This time of the year is hard! There’s so little light, the sun shines less and we’re all so busy planning for the holiday season and the new year.

It’s all so hectic.

It’s the time of year when I miss family even more.

And I also miss small things, like glimpsing over to our old neighbours’ and seeing their morning candles, our cycle school runs in Oxford, seeing squirrels running across in front of us.

The kids are difficult to wake, mornings are much more fraught.

Getting out of bed is …brrrr!  And don’t even get me started on getting dressed to go outside!  All those layers!  All restricting.

Then, just as I was battling with a cold and recurring headaches, it started to snow.

Snow makes the world so much prettier!  It makes it worthwhile to get dressed in all those layers.

And it made me realise I need to snap out of seeing what is wrong with the season and embrace the ups and downs.

Sure it’s dark, but that means I can light candles and pretty lights.

Sure it’s cold, but that also means I get to wear soft, fluffy jumpers.

… and so much more good.

Hygge needed to be embraced!

This year though, I’m going to try to bring others along with me for some Hygge:

Hope you didn’t laugh too much at my very expressive face and terrible editing! 😀
