It’s always exciting to get presents! When a new baby arrives it’s a bit like Christmas. The postman and visitors arrive with all sorts of goodies. It’s no different whether it is baby number one or number three.
We’ve got some lovely presents for Mini Man (and some for me and Littlins too)- clothes, couple of toys, some pretty flowers, a few delicious meals cooked and delivered to us. It’s really heart-warming that people take the time and effort to think of things… and sometimes it’s as simple as a congratulations card.
I, being so practical, always struggle with what to give as I want it to be useful, so I end up asking. I’m totally ashamed of my inability to come up with things practical and surprising at the same time. I have to remind myself- it’s the thought that counts!
The other day my lovely friend, Elizabeth, came to visit Mini Man bringing a bag of goodies. She gave them to me- “it’s really for you… and the kids”- then looked apologetically at Dadonthebrink- “Sorry, not for you!”
Here’s what was in her new mummy gift pack:
- a bit of a boost for tired mum- for those tired mornings
- a moment of calm and some revive and revitalise packaged
- something to entertain Littlins with while breastfeeding Mini Man
Both me and Dadonthebrink loved it! So thoughtful!
I also asked around what sort of presents others have received. Some notable ones were a special statue of mother holding baby, chocolate dipped strawberries and “a shed load of freezer meals!” All fab ideas!
So what were your favourite gifts that you received after giving birth? Anything extravagant?
Anything you hated?

A friend of mine crocheted blankets for both my kids, they are so snuggly and lovely and I plan to pay it forward and do the same for my pregnant friends.
I love the idea of a new mummy gift pack. I am going to nab that idea.
Sorry to all my friends who got me wonderful presents, but the best, or at least most memorable, present I had after my firstborn was from a work colleague who arrived when I was having a particularly crappy sleepless day with a pair of bootees for the baby and two chocolate eclairs for me! I could have kissed her.
My friend knitted a blanket for me and it was so special. I now love giving blankets to everyone even though mine aren’t handmade! Hope you and mini are doing well.
I was given lots of lovely things when the kids were born, most memorably a pair of knitted ALL Black (NZ rugby team) booties for son. 🙂 Funny you should post on this today because I’ve also posted a slightly different conversation with my OH on what to buy a friend when her baby comes. Hope it makes you laugh! Vix –
That did make me laugh!
What great gifts. x
That such a sweet gift bag – it’s lovely she not only thought of the little ones but you too!
