A rubbish day… or was it? #EmbraceHappy

As I reversed I heard the crumble of metal. I turned to look back in disbelief, not just through the rear view mirror… And there was a car parked, on the double yellows, just in my path of reversing.

The day didn’t start of the best: I woke up grumpy from lack of sleep and in pain from a kidney infection. The kids were quite cheery, but off to an extra slow start too.

We made it to school just in time, with Angelina eating her breakfast in the car.

Being just a couple minutes late meant that getting to Max’s nursery was an easy run, no traffic. He was happy to go in. (He always seems to be more comfortable staying at nursery after he’s slept the full night with me, not just crept in in the middle of the night. As he had last night.)

I walked out of the nursery, looked up and enjoyed the sunshine for a moment. I then made the decision that today I wasn’t going to be miserable! I psyched myself up, day in the car and reversed out.

Then crack, bang, crumble.

I got out in disbelief at my own stupidity.  The towbar had made a dent!

So much for deciding to be happy!

Thankfully the driver of the other car was pre-occupied with other more serious matters and when she got out, instead of being irate just accepted my sincere apology, we exchanged details, snapped pictures and parted.

I felt really bad. And judging from the situation the other lady was not having a good day either, even without my antics.  I had a thought: cake solves a lot of problems!  So I invited her to the local Costa just before school pick up.

We met there, had cake and luscious black forest hot chocolate topped with lots of whipped cream.

We chatted, shared more than you’d probably share with a stranger you’d just met… and it felt good.

Some days it’s good to decide to be happy, don’t you think?
